Terms of Readings

I made a post a while ago that discusses tips for forming a good question – you might want to check it out if you’re unsure how to ask the question you want to ask.

Refusing questions
I reserve the right to refuse any question. I will do what I can to help you rework an objectionable question so that we can do a reading that helps you, but if you’re unwilling to change the question, I will refund your money. Questions that breach my ethical guidelines (below) will definitely be refused, so it is worth having a look at those before you book a reading.

No Show Policy
If you purchase a face-to-face/phone/skype/chat or other reading, and don’t turn up at the agreed time, I will keep the money. The time I spend waiting for you to show up is time I can’t spend doing other things. If you realise you’re not going to be available at the agreed time, I’m happy to reschedule, but only if you to contact me and tell me you’d like to reschedule before the reading was scheduled to occur.

If we are doing a face-to-face/phone/skype reading and you’re not liking the reading, tell me within the first 5 minutes and I’ll refund your money (minus the cost of travel if I had to travel to meet you), no harm, no foul. If you decide at the end of the reading that you didn’t like it, I will keep the money. If I do the work, I should be paid for it.

In this industry, it’s important to be up-front about your ethics. So, here they are:

Everything we discuss during your reading is confidential. I won’t share any of it without your permission. Your name, and any other details that you reveal to me will remain secret.

I will never attempt to upsell you other products, or demand money to remove ‘evil curses’ when doing a reading with you. If a reader ever does this to you, they’re probably a fraudster trying to scare you into giving them a lot of money for nothing. Don’t give them the money.

Free Will
Should I do this, or that? – I’m here to give advice, not tell you what to do. I will not tell you what course of action to take. Your actions are your own responsibility. You have the freedom to choose your own path, and I don’t want to take that away from you. I can help you with a reading to clarify the things you really want, or the values you most care about, or other things to help you make the choice yourself, but I will not make choices for you.

Medical Advice
Am I pregnant? – A pregnancy test is cheaper than a tarot reading. I strongly recommend you get one of those. If it’s inconclusive, maybe do another, or see a doctor. You’re going to want to go to a doctor about the pregnancy eventually, anyway, might as well start the process early. If you want to a reading about how life will be with the new baby when it comes, I’m happy to do that.

Do I have cancer? – I’m not a licensed medical practitioner, so I will not diagnose medical conditions – go to your doctor for that. If you don’t like your doctor’s diagnosis, get a second opinion from another doctor. I can’t prescribe medications or refer you to any medical specialists that you might need to see. Only doctors can do that. If you want a reading about coping with illness, I’m happy to do that.

Legal Advice
How do I get the biggest share of the inheritance? How can I get the most favourable financial outcome for my divorce? – Hire a lawyer. I do not give legal advice – I am not a lawyer. I can speak on ethics, but ethics and the law are not the same thing. If you want a reading to help you cope with the stress of being involved in legal proceedings, I can do that.

Financial Advice
What’s the best way for me to pay as little tax as possible? – Hire an accountant. I’m not an accountant, tax officer, or in any way qualified to explain how the stock market works. I can help you to work out what careers might be best for you, or talk about challenges you might face if you wish to become self employed, but this advice is given with the assumption that you will seek out relevant experts when it’s necessary.

Will I win the lottery? – I think discussing this type of reading is going to need to be an article all by itself, but in short: I’m not going to answer that question. The gambling industry creeps me out, and I don’t want to encourage anyone to participate in it.

Third Party Readings
What does my ex think of me? Are they dating someone new? Will my child graduate? – If that person wanted you to know what they were thinking or doing, then they would tell you. If they wanted a tarot reading, then they would have come to me for a reading. I only do readings for people that consent to be read for. If you want to have a reading for how to get over the ex, I’m more than happy to help with that. If you want to get back with them, we can do a reading to see what you should work on to be a better partner for that person. If you want to know how you can help your child graduate, I’m very happy to do a reading for that.

Emergencies and Crises
If you are in a situation of crisis or emergency, please contact the relevant crisis services in your area. Make sure you are safe before you seek a reading with me. Please, don’t ever risk your safety for a tarot reading.
